Our last day in Prague was the most eventful day thus far. We were all in good spirits since Amanda got her luggage and things were looking up. The day started with us looking for a tour to take us to terezin which is a concentration camp. We finally found a tour that would take us at 1 in the afternoon. With time to spare we decided to go sightseeing and look over the Charles bridge. Here we spent a lot of time taking pictures and listening to some crazy street acts. We had about an hour and a half left before the tour bus left so we decided to grab lunch. Here's when the day took a turn.
With only about a half hour to get to the meeting place after lunch we ran into a movie set. Someone famous was bound to come out so we waited and waited thinking the tour was right down the street. We finally saw someone famous but still not sure who it was although Amanda thinks she knows and has to research. With 10 min left we decided to run through the cobblestone streets. We turned a corner and nothing looked familiar. Panic set in and we were running around asking people where to go but no one spoke English. Eventually we found the bus just as they were starting to pull away. Sweaty and all they let us on. I felt like I was on the show the amazing race.
The tour consisted of a mini bus with about 15 tourist. The tour guide was the sweetest lady that said the most hilarious things. For example we were driving and we saw a lady on razor scooter and she shouts out "ohhh bloody hell! What is she doing!?" We soon figured out we were going to be best friends on the tour. We get to the camp and she tells us we are so young and brave to come out here by ourselves. Then she went on to tell us where to party in the city. I think she should have came out with us and showed us how to party. So back to the concentration camp- we arrived after an hour bus ride and the mood instantly changed. Hundreds of graves along with brick walls surrounded the mini fortress. The first room was tiny with bunk beds three levels high surrounding the parameter of the room. Only one bathroom. Guess how many prisoners were kept in the room? 100! Can't even imagine and it really put history into perspective. After the tour we went to the ghetto to see the terezin museum and watch a movie. The last stop we made was to the mass grave site where there was an estimated 34,000 bodies there. It was also the site where thousands more got cremated.
We went to dinner in Old Town Square and saw a sign for English stand up comedy across the street. Propaganda bar was a mix of English speaking people from all over the world. Very fun to watch the 6 comedians and drink cheap beer. There was a lady who did a "human juke box". We'll link the video....very cool. Look her up on Facebook to see it, if we don't post. They filmed her at the bar.
We took a scenic 45 minute walk back to the hostel. Grabbed beer to walk with along the way. Met Brazilian boys in the lobby bar and shared tequila shots. And then an entire bottle of "Orient-apple" vodka. Delicious mix of ginger and green apple. Might have been why we woke up at 11:25am the next day. Missed breakfast, scrambled to make the noon check out, and felt not so delightful on the tram, train, and bus rides to the airport.
Off to Italy!!
